Major Update Following Community Feedback


Significant changes to the creature v3  following community feedback with the aim of streamlining and enabling play at different levels of humanity. Changes are primarily relating to the main 'humanity' mechanic.

  • Replaced 10 long 'humanity clock' with a 6 long 'humanity track' positioned next to the stress track and removed the 'neutral' region 
    • A shorter track with only two regions streamlines play.
    • The humanity track relating directly to the stress track eases bookkeeping.
  • Changed to graduated shortening of stress track with loss of humanity. 
    • Gradual loss makes turning monstrous less instantly punishing. 
  • Changed conditions for gaining and loosing humanity.
    • End of session humanity change is now  1 or zero ticks, accounting for the shorter track length.
    • Removed immediate humanity cost for taking the 'give into your monstrous impulse' devils bargain. 
      • This reduces in play bookkeeping and removes the 'double dip' of these monstrous actions being considered in end-of-session humanity change.
    • Removed the humanity cost to taking the 'chimera' special ability.
      • Especially with the shortened stress track this made the ability too costly to take.
  •   Changed the result of taking the 'give into your monstrous impulse' devils bargain.
    • The level of consequence now scales with lower humanity.
    • The devils bargain now gives +1 effect if you are in the monstrous region.
      • This Gives a bonus to make playing in the monstrous region more attractive.
  • Added changes to effect when at one humanity.
    • +1 effect for wreck and command, -1 effect for finesse and consort.
    • This makes the creature feel especially monstrous at low humanity and gives a benefit (to monstrous activity) to counteract the high stress cost.
  •  Added the 'monstrous entanglement' table.
    • The creature now rolls a monstrous entanglement if they end a session on 1 humanity or if they overindulge. 
    • Monstrous entanglements cause trouble for the creature and their crew. They include: upsetting allies or the local population, remorse, getting lost, rejection of transplanted components, murder, and damage to crew claims and upgrades
    • This replaces trauma-ing as a result of ticking too low on humanity, which means sustained low humanity play is now more possible.
  • Changes to monstrous impulses.
    • Changed monstrous impulse 'consuming life essence' to 'insatiable hunger.
      • This seemed more creature-y and less vampiric.
    • Added monstrous impulse 'extreme vice'.
      • This channels the activity of Mr Hyde from 'Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde'
  • Changed the extended range of 'remote limb' to 'up to several blocks away'.
    • The  range increase gained from spending an additional stress or level of harm was too small and did not enable you to achieve much more. The increased range is more worth the cost.
